Now beginning our tenth year of tutoring, our program involves about 40 kids. We emphasize reading and math skills. About 25 volunteers are working in small groups with the children, usually on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays after school from about 4-6 p.m., although times are flexible based on the availability of the tutor. Again, relationships are important, so we have a lot of fun during the tutoring session. Training is available for tutors. Groups or individuals can also provide the meal, or prepare the sandwiches we usually serve.

Volunteers sometimes feel that they can’t help in this area because “it’s been too long since I had algebra myself!” Don’t worry, most of our tutoring kids are in grade school, and much of the work is helping these kids catch up who are behind in reading skills and math facts.

And this is a super way to meet a number of our best kids, and make a meaningful impact!!
